The star power factor has not really turned out to be helpful for Transcendence. Despite the star power of actors, Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman, the film has failed at the box office and also has not been able to impress the critics. The movie is a sci-fi flick and is about a scientist whose mind gets transferred into an artificial intelligence agent. The film has just been able to make just $11.2 million in its opening weekend. The movie cost around $100 million to make. With another flop in his kitty, this becomes Depp’s fourth consecutive movie to bomb at the box office after “Dark Shadows,” “The Lone Ranger” and “The Rum Diary.”
Vinyls cannot overtake CDs
Well, it may sound a bit awkward but let me wish you a very Happy Record Store Day! Vinyl may have become a hit with all the music lovers and may be encouraging people to explore and buy new music, but still it can’t overtake CDs, believe the experts. But there’s something interesting as well, that you need not worry about dropping the needle and physically spinning the record back to rewind. Obviously, people today want more of relaxing things and less of physicality. Vinyl may be great, but to the experts this idea sounds to be less superior to that of uncompressed digital recordings and they believe that this idea is preposterous.
Scattered – a short film that imagines a world without paper
Can you imagine the world without paper? Well, it seems a bit difficult but it is not that difficult according to a recent scientist’s short film “Scattered,” that is based upon a story adopted from author Ken MacLeod’s work. No paper means, we can cut down on a lot of waste, we can save a thousands of trees and a lot more. The idea is pretty fascinating and has been well explored in “Scattered.” This is the graduation project for two students from London’s MetFilm School and has been adopted from Ken MacLeod’s story, “The Surface of Last Scattering,” which was published in the scifi anthology TFSF.
Octodad to arrive on April 22
Octodad: Dadliest Catch is all set for its arrival on PS4 on April 22 in North America and April 23 in Europe. The game has been priced at $15/€14/£12. The game has had a great run on PC, Mac and Linux since its launch, selling more than 90,000 copies since then. Its arrival on PS4 will include some updates and gameplay pull offs. Most of these changes are reportedly arriving in from player feedback. The Young Horses CEO Philip Tibitoski had earlier told a few new things that will be coming to Octodad PS4, which also includes the removal of a stealth mission later in the game. Octodad is a pretty farcical and interesting game to play. It is all about ludicrous folly and you just have to make the main character, which is an octopus in a suit fail at simple tasks in comical ways. The PS4 version is going to include Move support and also a local coop mode where multiple players can control one Octodad.
King settles court disputes
Finally, King has been able to settle the trademark disputes regarding the words “candy” and “saga.” These disputes were on with a couple of small studios and now have been settled up. One of them is Stoic Studios, developers of The Banner Saga, who released a statement stating that they “have come to a joint agreement with King regarding Stoic’s The Banner Saga trademark and it enables both the parties to protect their respective trademarks now and in the future as well.” Many other studios have also been able to settle it up with the makers of Candy Crush. The makers of CandySwipe also released a statement saying, “We are happy to announce that we have been able to resolve the dispute with King over the CandySwipe trademark and that we are withdrawing any opposition to their mark and they are withdrawing their counterclaim against ours.”
