The highly anticipated PS4 has received a soaring number of pre-orders and according to an investor call, Sony Computer Entertainment said that it expected to ship 5 million PS4s by the end of March 2014. The figure is a record in itself for pre-orders ever placed for any of the previous versions of the console.
“Compared to past platforms, the pre-orders that we have received for this new platform [the PlayStation 4] is much, much higher,” said Sony chief financial officer Masaru Kato.
This has clearly indicated the popularity and the growing trend of the next-gen consoles. Kato also believed that the pre-order figure has boosted their confidence level also.
“Sometimes, when we launch a new platform, the software catalog is not sufficient,” said Kato. “This year, on a comparative basis, I think we have a much stronger (sic) line-up of software coming.”
PlayStation is all set for a November 15 launch in North America and for a November 29 launch in Europe and Australia.
