Finally, the news has been made official. Paul Rudd will indeed play Hank Pym in ‘Ant-Man’, directed by Edgar Wright. The studio maintained that Paul Rudd had always been their first choice to don the red suit.
“We felt a huge sense of relief when Edgar approached us and recommended Paul Rudd’s name. We knew then, that we got the right guy to play the role. He is an energetic actor and we are excited about the fact that it is Rudd who would bring back ‘Ant-man’ to life”, said Kevin Feige, producer and president of Marvel Studios.
There had been heavy speculation about the other lead for a long time. Hank Pym and Scott Lang are the ones who are being considered. Rudd did make sure that he didn’t spill too many beans in the process. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is expected to be his rival in the film, but his hands are currently full as he is involved in a comic book project of his own in Sandman.
It would be a treat for the audience to watch both Mark Ruffalo and Rudd sharing screen space. The film would have a comic element as well in an otherwise full-on sci-fi film loaded with a lot of adventures. “Before anybody comes to the conclusion, it is not a superhero spoof and it is nowhere similar to the Honey I Shrunk The Kids franchise”, he added.
The film would be battling it out in the summer of 2015 with an expected released date of July 31st.
