Otellini Not Keen About The Deal With Apple

Rumors were making rounds for quite some time that Intel might be planning to join hands with the other giant Apple, and they might take a step forward in doing the mobile business together. But the present CEO of intel, Otellini seems to have poured chilled water on the rumors of the chip deal by his comments on Tuesday. Though his comments leave much room for speculations and interpretations, but the first signal from his part about the deal was clearly negative.

Otellini concluded his answer with a simple “No” when asked about making processors based on the Apple’s A series chips. The idea of partnership between the two companies was blindly dismissed by the present Intel CEO. As a reason behind the dismissal, he cited that the ground rules of the company will not allow helping a competitor in the chip market. But there are ample of differences between helping a competitor and coming in terms of partnership with another big player in the market.

His version about the foundry business was in a different tone, and that left some room for his successor to take his call. In his speech, he mentioned that it will be a pleasant idea to have a strategic relationship with a customer. A strategic relationship will enable the company to go beyond a single transaction that is sure to help the company to grow more in the field. His words clearly indicated Intel’s intention of being something more than just a contract manufacturer for the customer companies.

His speech also included some information about intel’s foundry business. He mentioned clearly that it has passed the first stages of development, and presently the company is in the stage of collecting sincere customers, but he declined to name all the customers for now. We can expect to hear some of the big names in the customer list which might include Apple Inc. too. Irrespective of whatever is cooking in the kitchen of Intel, Otellini is going to leave his position in the coming month, and the next CEO might have some different ideas and perspective to roll the business.
