Nintendo announced on the Company’s website through a notice that they are ending with the production of Wii video game console in Japan. The notice is currently displaying “Production Discontinued” for the Wii on the Nintendo site.
On Tuesday, a Nintendo spokesperson confirmed about the product discontinuation in Japan by further clarifying that the end of production was only relevant to that country.
“The announcement that the Wii console has been discontinued is specific to Japan. There is no change in the status of the Wii in the United States, and it is available for purchase this holiday season,” the spokesperson said.
In early 2010, Wii became Nintendo’s top-selling console and upto June 30, 2013 approx 100 million units were sold, according to company stats.
