Apple’s highly awaited “iWatch” smartwatch may include in a UV light exposure sensor which will be provided by Texas-based Silicon Labs, according to reports coming in from Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis (via AppleInsider). This sensor will be “fit for activity-tracking arm and wrist bands, smart watches and smartphone handsets.” The sensor will also track heart/pulse rate and blood oximetry levels and provide proximity and gesture control alongwith the UV detection feature.
These chips will measure UV exposure to help those with an elevated risk of sunburn or just to warn about excessive sun exposure. This feature would be really appealing to those looking for some uniqueness.
Reports in the past have indicated that Apple will also include the ability to monitor a number of health-related metrics in the iWatch such as heart rate, movement, perspiration levels, skin temperature and sleep activity. According to reports, Apple is also working on an app called “Healthbook” for iOS 8 which would be useful app as it would help the iWatch monitor and track health statistics like calories, heart rate and weight in conjunction with the iPhone.
Apple has been really putting in a lot of R&D into its making. There is no promised date that has been given by Apple but it could be expected along with the iOS 8.
