2.4 Billion Gadgets Are To Be Shipped In 2013

According to the Gartner’s forecast, this year, the total shipment of cellphones, computers and tablets is going to touch the number 2.4 billion, which is a straight 9 per cent jump from the last year, 2012. This is not all, according to estimates from Gartner, by 2017; the total amount of gadgets shipped to the different markets of the world will touch the magic number of 3 billion. These results once again prove the place of the electronic devices in our life, and how much dependent the human race has become on their gadgets.

The forecast, did not try to envisage the market shares among the tech giants, but with such a huge market, every player in the field is expected to see potential growth. The report also stressed on the growing market of the Android. The tablet devices are not either lagging behind rather market for tablets is growing with a rapid speed. According to the prediction, the shipment of Ultramobiles in 2013 will reach as high as 24 million, which is expected to rise further to 96 million by 2017.

Android has already been marked as the most dominant operating system in the world of gadgets and is expected to be running on the 861 million devices, of the expected 2.4 billion gadgets to be shipped. The second position is held by Windows, the OS from Microsoft at 354 million devices. Apple’s Operating System X and iOS together is expected to run in 293 million devices, whereas the BlackBerry OS from RIM is expected to be operating in 31 million gadgets.

Android is the market leader that is expected to continue its dominance, but it is noteworthy that the Android OS has different flavours. It is not exactly the same Operating System that runs on low-end and high-end mobiles. Moreover, Android has a number of customised versions available, and, in fact, this is the reason for the huge popularity of the OS. According to Carolina Milanesi, an analyst of Gartner, a major part of the Android’s gain can be attributed to the non-branded tablets being sold in the growing countries, whereas Apple is continuing to hold its strong base in the markets of Europe and U.S.
