Wednesday, at an event arranged for the brands and advertisers at Pier 36 on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, Google clearly pitched it to the advertisers marking YouTube the best vehicle to reach the crowd aged between 18-34 years. He also added that this is the future of advertising as video is becoming more and more popular with every passing day, for sharing experience. There were no announcements of new partnerships or major project undertaken. In the event, the executives of the company marked that YouTube is perfectly in-tune with the likings of the young generation, the Generation –C consumers and they presented data that made the transition to online viewing evident.

To attract the advertisers, Robert Kyncl, global head of content, YouTube, talked up about the number of users this online video sharing site serve. He also said that the demand for online video is here to stay and grow. According to the data served on the event, the website has 1 billion monthly visitors, and over 6 billion hours of video is watched on YouTube every month. This data is no doubt mind-boggling. It was also informed that the hours of video watching on YouTube has increased from 4 billion in the month of January to 6 billion within 4 months. Margo Georgiadis, President of YouTube USA, directly claimed to advertisers that this is the medium of advertisement that can make them win with the under 40 generation.

YouTube which is majorly known for its user uploaded content, has included more curated content to its platform, it has also rolled out a number of funded channels in order to bring higher quality and original content. It is also planning to launch a series of themed weeks to promote the premium channels of the brand. On the same event executives also come up with a study that shows brands that have invested 10 to 15 per cent of their budget for media in YouTube, has experienced 1 to 3 per cent rise in sales. The largest 100 brands across the world are successfully using YouTube as an effective platform for promotion.
