Xbox 360 emulation on the Xbox One is quite possible, according to comments made by Xbox partner development head Frank Savage.
While speaking at the Microsoft’s Build Developer conference in San Francisco last week, Frank replied to the queries regarding whether the corporate has plans for Xbox 360 emulation on the Xbox One or the plans have been ruled out.
“The plans are still there,” he said. “But we’re not done thinking them through yet, unfortunately.”
“It looks exhausting to emulate the PowerPC stuff on the X86 stuff. Therefore there is nothing to announce, however I’d like to see it myself.”
Microsoft has never announced its plans for either emulation or the backwards compatibility since the console’s launch. The case at Sony is different though. Sony intends to support backwards compatibility using its Gaikai-powered PSN service, which Microsoft may not bring to Xbox One, going by the comments once made by a Microsoft spokesperson.
