Microsoft’s Windows is an OS that millions of computers are using today. Homes or schools or colleges, everywhere computers are using windows operating system. There have been several versions of windows released till today. Latest being, the Windows 8 which was released on 26th October 2012. But it has been almost 4 months after it’s release and the numbers of people criticizing it are increasing day by day. Recently Samsung Electronics executive Jun Dong stated the reason behind PC declining is Windows 8. According to him the reason behind the decline of PCs is Windows 8.
“The global PC industry is steadily shrinking despite the launch of Windows 8. I think the Windows 8 system is no better than the previous Windows Vista platform.”
– said Jun Dong, Samsung’s Memory Chip Division’s President.
Jun Dong is the president of Samsung’s memory chip division and he feels that rather than working on PC chipsets they should take a look at the Smartphone chip segments as their shipments have increased and will provide better profits. With over millions of galaxy devices been sold Jun Dong’s point of view is acceptable. Samsung has been ruling the Smartphone market with Galaxy devices which come in all price range. Be it low budget (Galaxy y, Galaxy wave, and more…) or feature loaded devices (Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 and it’s upcoming device Galaxy S4).
Samsung is providing a whole range of smartphones. Whereas, Samsung PCs have seen a huge decline in it’s existence in the market. People are more attracted towards hybrids and tablets that are easy to handle and cost efficient.
Windows 8 has been reported to have several issues but can it be the main cause for the decline in PC selling? Or the increase in hybrids and tablets has affected the popularity of PCs.
