I Am Willing To Fight For My Spot: Mata

Juan Mata has insisted that he is willing to fight for his place in the Chelsea squad. Despite stiff competition in the mid-field, Mata is confident that he would secure a spot in the squad against Everton. Mata recovered from a couple of niggling injuries and is hoping to earn a start in Chelsea’s next game.

With Eden Hazard, Oscar, Andre Schurrle, Keven De Bruyne and latest signing Willian providing Mourinho enough selection headaches, Mata has conceded that he would give his best to be part of the team. He knows that it would be difficult to start regularly, but is up for the challenge, nonetheless.

“It is a very good thing for the club and for the manager. Being spoilt for choice is not a headache, but a luxury. All the other mid-field players are extremely talented. Finally, it comes down to selecting the team based on the combinations and team chemistry. All the players are young with a lot of talent. I wish the team formation was tweaked in a manner where six mid-fielders could play, but that isn’t possible.”

When queried on his confidence regarding reclaiming his spot, Mata said, “I am an optimistic player and take any opportunity that comes by way. Frankly, it is a much difficult position for me this season, when compared to the previous. I have just recovered from a few injuries. I am feeling much better now and I am looking forward to playing for Chelsea. I would do by best for the team; be it scoring a goal or assist another forward.”

The Spaniard also revealed that there were a plethora of clubs who were luring him this summer. Amid all speculation, Mata chose to stay in Chelsea as Mourinho assured that he would have to play a key role this season.
