The legendary designer and the creator of SimCity, Will Wright shared his views on EA’s SimCity server issue at the launch of the game, with the GameIndustry.biz. He believes that the breakdown was predictable. The backlash of the SimCity’s DRM issues was expected as he marks it to be in an uncomfortable space. He also said that the EA’s fault was inexcusable. The users were not able to play the game even after paying $60 for it, which cannot be justified by any means. He also added that he feels bad for the team, but this is what he had already predicted. He also criticised the company for not mentioning clearly, if it was a single player, or a multi-player game, which was sure to cause a lot of confusion amongst the consumers.
He also addressed to the always online issue of the SimCity and also the controversy over the next Xbox from Microsoft on the always online requirement. He said, people become concerned only when it does not work properly.
SimCity was released in the month of March and had server connectivity problems from the first day. The game also had a number of bugs that were crowding up the gaming experience, and consumers were generally disappointed. At the first place, a $60 game from the house of EA is not expected to come out with a bag full of bugs. The major update for this game, version 2.0, was released in the month of April, which solved a minimum number of the old bugs and introduced an array of new bugs in the game.
Now the game is available for play, but the players still have to fight with different multitudes of bug issues in every step. This is not exactly the consumers expect to get from the IT giant, for their $60. After all the hassles, finally in today’s announcement EA explicitly marked Sims 4 as a single player offline game, and as a ray of hope, Maxis is to come up with version 3.0 update of the game by the end of the week.
