Wenger Rubbishes Perez’s Comments About Ozil

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager has admitted that he is mildly ‘surprised’ by the comments from Florentino Perez, the Real Madrid president. He claimed that Ozil had struggled to adapt to the team and the expectations which the fans had, during his time at the Bernabeu.

Perez claimed that Ozil could not handle the pressure at Madrid. He was asked to leave the club, and the 42.2 million pounds transfer happened because of that. However, Wenger offered a different explanation of the events.

“I am a good friend of Florentino and I am surprised. I spoke to Ozil about the issue and he was surprised too. Real Madrid wanted to let one player go and Ozil wanted to come here. It is as simple as that. He is under immense pressure from his national team, yet he wona championship with Real Madrid. Pressure and expectations are never a problem when it comes to a world-class player like Mesut Ozil”, he said.

Wenger also claimed that Jack Wilshere is willing to sacrifice his role in the team as his role has been slightly modified in the current Gunners line-up.

“Wilshere is always ready to help the team whenever required, which is absolutely fantastic. Left flank is not his best position. He has a lot of freedom to move inside and help Cazorla. Wilshere does that well. He would suit the role well and would be very disciplined as well. The job at the flanks is the hardest in the modern game and Jack does it very well. I am very happy with his recent performances”, Wenger added.
