Gabe Newell, the co-founder and managing director of Valve said that despite of its current minuscule share of the market Linux is the future of gaming.
It is now sure that Newell is going to do something big by extending its Steam distribution platform to hardware designed for living rooms,as in today’s era Linux gaming generally accounts for less than one percent of the market by any measure including revenue and players.
Gabe Newell made his comments at LinuxCon in New Orleans that “Its little bit funny that I have come here to tell you guys that Linux and open source is the future of gaming. It’s sort of like going to Rome and teaching Catholicism to the pope.”
Newell also addressed that the introduction of Stream to Linux is the signal that they are serious about this Linux thing specially for their development partners.Besides just releasing Steam on Linux-based operating systems, Valve is contributing to the LLDB debugger project and is co-developing an additional debugger for Linux, Newell said.
