After the team’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, all the frustrated United fans went on to blame and directed rants on Sir Alex Ferguson.
According to multiple reports, angry fans cursed the former United manager as well as his successor David Moyes.
Stadium stewards also had to be deployed to prevent supporters from tearing down a banner honouring Moyes as “The Chosen One.”
United are currently placed in seventh with 51 points, and their 10th league loss to City was apparently too much for the fans to digest.
After Tuesday’s defeat United will end the Premier League with their lowest point ever.
The Telegraph stated that Stewards had to pull one fan away from Moyes’ seat in the dug-out.
Club officials have publicly supported Moyes, though sources told ESPN FC last week that key United boardroom figures have considered the option of sacking Moyes for the first time.
Moyes took the blame for his side’s Tuesday’s loss.
“I take responsibility,” Moyes said. “I have to be the one who plays them, picks them and that is what it is. I don’t think tonight was in any way [down to] a lack of effort or lack of commitment from the players, in fact I thought they were fully there but in some areas we didn’t come up to scratch.”
