The much awaited trailer for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, starring Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela is directed by Justin Chadwick, highlighting Mandela’s early life, his education and 27 years in prison. The movie also stars Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela. The film is filled with drama and action. The trailer seemed to give the impression that the relationship between Mandela and Winnie is given a lot more importance. In fact, that is the focal point of the movie. With a powerful soundtrack and typical Hollywood effects, the movie/documentary is expected to take the film industry by storm. The movie is a tribute to the legend, Nelson Mandela. The film should have been conceptualized and produced much earlier. Mandela’s principles and values are not lost yet. It has a lot of relevance in the current scenario.
Unlike the American trailer, the UK trailer has a lot of makeup jobs on the old Naomie and Idris as the older Nelson and Winnie.
The film would open in the USA on the 29th of November by The Weinstein Company. It is expected to be a very strong Oscar contender. Given the timing of the release, it is expected to be fresh in the minds of the judges and might just give it an extra edge. The reactions and reviews after the TIFF premiere have been very strong. It was loved and appreciated by many. The movie would open in the UK this January. The premiere in UK is expected to received a lot better mainly because it was the English who had occupied South Africa. They would relate to the movie a lot easier.
The others starring in the movie are Tony Kgorge, Zolani Mkiva, Riaad Mossa, Lindiwe Matshikiza, Terry Pheto and Deon Lotz. All these South African actors make up for the rest of the cast.
