Surprise Inclusions And Unexpected Snubs In The Oscars’ Makeup Race

Seven films still remain in the competition for the Makeup and Hairstyling category for the 86th Academy Awards, as announced by the The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

There were quite a few surprises as well.

The biggest snub was to “The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug”, despite the fact that the previous movies in the franchise were nominated last year with two ‘Lord of The Rings” movies winning the prize. There were a lot others as well. “Oz: The Great and Powerful”, “Man of Steel”, “Rush”, “Star Trek into Darkness”, “ 12 Years a Slave” and “The Butler by Lee Daniels” didn’t make it as well.

The Surprising ones which made it were “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, “Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters” and “American Hustle”. It means that two movies of both Jennifer Lawrence and Jeremy Runner have made the cut. The favourite one to bag the award is “Jackass Present: Bad Grandpa.”

The complete list of films which have been shortlisted in alphabetical order are:-

“American Hustle” “Dallas Buyers Club” “The Great Gatsby” “Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters” “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa” “The Lone Ranger”

All members of the Academy’s Makeup Artist and Hairstylists would be called to view 10-minute videos from each of the seven films which were shortlisted. After the screening of the films, the members would vote three films for final Oscar nominations.

Stay tuned for all the news on the awards as the 86TH Academy Awards nominations would be announced live on Thursday, January 16,2014.
