Street Fighter legend Yoshinori Ono mentioned he wants to see more games to be developed in the Street Fighter series, with next-gen in mind. Ono furthur said he doesn’t want to stop Street Fighter’s series at four.
The occasion was the launch of latest iteration in the Street Fighter series, the Ultra Street Fighter 4 update, which adds five new characters to Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition and will be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 while there is no word on the release for Wii U, Xbox One or PS4.
He said development for next-gen reuires huge investment in terms of staff, resources and money and showed his interest in the concept of taking games Free to play like what Tekken Revolution, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, and Killer Instinct are doing.
He said : “Looking at fighting games as a competitive sport, one might say the more players, the merrier, Going F2P lowers the hurdle of needing money to start, which I believe is one the ideal parts about it.
On the other hand, knowing whether a company can guarantee the development cost is something to which I don’t currently see an answer. For Fighting games, we’re always looking for resources that can be acquired by paying money. If can find that, I believe things would go smoothly.”
