On April 25th, Facebook acquired Parse and since then the developers associated with the mobile app based company have been quite unhappy. Some of them have even threatened to leave the platform of Parse. Taking advantage of this scenario, Stackmob has released a Parse migration tool which helps in migrating data from Parse to Stackmob. This shows that, in the market of tough competition, companies are trying to make out the best out of every situation.
Through the Facebook acquisition of Parse, Facebook has shown that it is eager to venture further in the mobile developing process and it expects to advance its place in the mobile landscape through this step. Facebook pledged that it would not change the development platform in any way as it understands its importance to the developers. Facebook has shown this non-interference policy to the photo sharing app it bought one year earlier. But even then the unhappy developers have been expressing their dissatisfaction through Twitter. The two main fears that they have are, firstly, Facebook will try to degrade the original Service of Parse by promoting its own ads. Secondly, it might try to spy into the data being loaded in Parse.
Stackmob took advantage of the situation and almost immediately published a blog, stating its advantages over Parse, and launched the auto importer for developers looking to move their apps. A step by step guide for the whole procedure was also posted along with the same. It is also encouraging the developers to switch over to their platform by offering reasons through their blog. According to the management of Stackmob, this immigration of Parse has been increasing since the last few months and after the Facebook acquisition, the numbers were bound to rise due to the negative feelings among the developers. The fact that Parse cannot function independently any longer is a point of concern among developers.
The question among the developers about what Facebook will do with their own private data cannot be answered immediately. But that does not essentially require for an immediate shift from Parse platform to Stackmob. Facebook will definitely have to clarify through its legal documents about its policy towards the Parse data, but it might take some time.
