Sony has provided with the subsequent statement regarding the resetting of passwords of some PSN users: “We habitually monitor for irregular activity, and if such activity is detected, we may sometimes reset passwords of affected SEN accounts to protect customers and their account information. The password resets aren’t associated with an attack on, nor vulnerability in, our data servers; it’s an example of a progressively common threat of malicious online activity.” A round of PSN password resets took place today. Sony informed selected PSN users through email when the corporate discovered “irregular activity” on its PlayStation Network.
PSN security has been a priority for Sony since the PlayStation Network outage in 2011 that was caused by an “external intrusion” compromising personal data. Sony would then go on to recruit former United States Homeland Security official Phillip Teitinger as its Chief data Security Officer.
