After a City Council vote, Google made an important announcement: Shawnee, Kansas, will be the next place to get the Google Fiber internet service, after Austin (TX) and Provo (UT). So it’s yet another area near Kansas City.
The City Council vote finalized the decision to bring the Google Fiber- 1GBps internet/TV pack- service to Shawnee. Since the service was introduced in Kansas, Google’s television services have improved, with the inclusion of channels that weren’t present before, such as ESPN and HBO. The time of the rollout hasn’t been decided, as the developers say it isn’t ready yet. “We still have a lot of planning and engineering work to do before we’re ready to bring Fiber to Shawnee,” said Google.
