The trailer of the upcoming film RoboCop was released on the 5th September, 2013 by Columbia Pictures and MGM. The movie is a remake of the 1987 American science fiction action film directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner. The director of the remake, Jose Padhila seems promising, as what is seen from the trailer.
The movie is basically science fiction, set in the city of Detroit, with the entire world set in the future. The year is 2028 and similar to the original, a multinational conglomerate namely, Omnicorp is at the peak and envy of the Robotics industry. The drones made by the company win the wars for America around the globe and now the company wants to bring the technology to it’s home front. The character of Alex Murphy played by Joel Kinnaman is the good cop who puts his duty first and does everything he can to keep the crime rate in the city of Detroit under control. He also plays the genuine loving husband and father; the ultimate family man.
In one such crime-fighting incident our protagnist gets injured. This is where the company Omnicorp comes into picture. The technology deeloped by the company helps save Alex’s life, but at the cost of what? The man lives and returns to the same familiar streets with issues that no man like him has ever had to deal with before.
The remake features Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptist. How this new and young cast will perform when in comparison to the original, only time will tell. The movie is scheduled to be released on the 7th of February, 2014.
