A special note to Vita and PS3 owners : Sony declared that the PlayStation Network would be under maintenance, on Thursday, August 22. This effectively means that they would be closing off any access to the PlayStation Store and its various online features as well. The blackout would begin around 8 PM GMT. It is expected to a wind up by 2.30 AM GMT. Sony has plans of releasing an update later tonight for the PlayStation Store. This would give a few days to the players to queue up any downloads, specially for the debuting Divekick and most importantly, this week’s PlayStation freebies- this week’s new batch.
The 6 and a half hour interruption has a positive side to it as well. Thursday’s blackout would help sharpen the kicking skills and jumping skills in Divekick’s single-player mode. Only an IT technician or a Network Bureaucrat would be able to understand the complexities behind such an interruption. It is necessary for any online software because cache clearing, unauthorized intrusion into PSN needs to be looked into and managed. Any error in the software or server needs to be rectified as soon as possible. Moreover, it involves a lot of diagnostics. The servers are checked for its speed, busted parts, etc. It is known that Sony’s standards are very high. They have their own Server Tech team which takes care and solves any bugs in the server and console.
