New York Film Critics Circle Announces Their List

As the awards season draws close, and talks about Oscar nominations become common, the critics are ensuring that their voices are heard. New York Film Critics Circle revealed its list of awards for 2013. Topping the list is American Hustle, by David O. Russell. The film won best picture, best screenplay and best supporting actress for Jennifer Lawrence.

Russell didn’t manage to bag the Best Director prize. That went to 12 Years A Slave’S Steve McQueen. Others who won were Blue Jasmine’s Cate Blanchett as Best actress, Robert Redford taking Best actor for All is Lost and Jared Leto bagging best supporting actor for Dallas Buyers club.

Llewyn Davis won Best Cinematography. The Wind Rises got Best animated film. Blue is the warmest colour won best foreign film and Fruitvale Station’s Ryan Coogler scored Best First film.

Wolf of Wall Street, Her and Nebraska did not make the list this time, but Hustle winning big here doesn’t mean that it will pull off the same at the Oscars. It does provide plenty of buzz though. One needs to wait and see how the awards season goes.
