Andy Rubin has come forward with his decision of stepping down as the founder and leader of the famous and the most often used mobile operating system-Android Inc.
Replacing him is the Indian American computer geek Sundar Pichai. His new job is to make sure nothing slows Android’s momentum. Having a B.Tech degree from IIT, MS from Stanford and MBA from Wharton, he is bound to impress anyone with his knowledge and qualifications.
Pichai is the senior vice president of Google Chrome. He was the reason behind Chrome turning into the mega success it is today. At a time when the existing web browsers-Internet Explorer and Firefox were doing well for themselves, Google Chrome made them run for their money.
Google CEO, Larry Page has immense faith in the new leader of android. In a post Page added :- “I know Sundar will do a tremendous job doubling down on Android as we work to push the ecosystem forward,”
Pichai’s entry into the rapidly changing mobile world comes at an extremely chaotic time. Despite the strength of the Android ecosystem, Samsung Electronics has emerged as the de facto Android king with it’s Galaxy S franchise. Some see Pichai’s takeover of Android as a signal that Google wants to coordinate or merge it’s two operating systems: Chrome and Android.
Sunder Pichai, the Chrome operating system has found it’s way into products such as the ChromebookPixel.
“Sundar has a talent for creating products that are technically excellent yet easy to use — and he loves a big bet,” Larry Page said.
BGC Partners analyst Colin Gillis said Pichai has a weighty responsibility. “He had better not screw it up,” Gillis said. “Android is a big success right now.”
Only time will tell whether this Indian lad is able to take Android to new heights just like he did with Chrome. Wait and watch to see if history will repeat itself .
