NBA To Install SportVU System In Arenas For 2013-14 And Improve Player Tracking

NBA announced on Thursday about their expansion in relationship with STATS LLC, which is a tech company that produces a top-notch camera system capable of quantifying and recording unprecedented basketball data.

If we start with the 2013-14 season, STAT’s six-camera system, known as SportVU, will be installed in every NBA arena to “calibrate and measure the movements of all players and the ball on the court.”

The NBA’s executive vice president of operations and technology,Steve Hellmuth told that it will be totally a new-gen thing and it will be possible to analyse the things in a way which was never possible before.

The use of this software came into market in the 2009 Finals between the Lakers and the Magic, 6 teams installed it during the 2010-11 season (Boston, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Golden State, Oklahoma City).And now the number has increased to 15 teams.

In an article Zach Lowe explained about the one-hundred dollar price tag issue for many teams implementing the technology. Of course, now the NBA will cover the cost.
