David Moyes confesses he gambled on the fitness of the attacker Robin Van Persie.
Van Persie who got himself injured while playing against Shakhrar Donetsk, and quickly followed a 1-0 loss over Newcastle later.
Moyes who now revealed that his Netherland attacker played the entire 90 minutes with a sore groin.
Unfortunately due to all this fitness gambling the United will again miss Van Persie after failing to recover in time for Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Swansea.
“I think if I’d brought him off (against Newcastle) some people would say ‘What are you doing? You are 1-0 down and you’re taking off your top goalscorer,’” Moyes said.
“I think that answers why I left him on. Robin had a sore groin and, after he played really well against Arsenal, we gave him a week’s holiday to recover. When he came back he hasn’t really been right since then.
“He played against Newcastle and then in the next game he pulled his thigh taking a corner.
“But I think we have looked to do things correctly.”
United’s injury list will have one short of name, Moyes believes that Wayne Rooney will not need surgery for a groin injury.
He justified by stating:“Wayne won’t need surgery. It’s a slight strain and the sort of thing a couple of weeks might fix,”
