Microsoft’s Any Surface ‘Touch-Screen’ To Hit Markets

Teachers can use it to instruct students, it can used by shops to display products or it could be used for Fun-to-play interactive games and it can turn a wall into a computer. The device that is developed by Microsoft is about to hit the market at very nominal price.

It is claimed that it was initially just a prototype that was created by the start-up Ubi in collaboration with Microsoft Kinect for Windows sensor and now its real life version is out there on sale for consumers.

After getting a helping hand from more than 50 organizations Ubi has worked hard in developing the software. Microsoft also announced on Tuesday that they want human collaboration and information to be just one finger touch away, irrespective of where the user is.

CEO and Co-founder of Ub, Anup Chathoth wrote in a blog post that they have made it possible to turn any surface into a touch screen and eliminated the need for screen hardware. He further added, that they have successfully reduced the cost and extended the possibilities of enabling interactive displays in any place like walls or public spaces.

A video was also released for consumers to actually know the product and its usage possibilities. The link shared below shows the software and projector that shines an image onto a pane of glass in addition to a kinetic sensor on the other side which is used to track th movements of the user exactly in the same way as one would do with its tablet or smartphone.

The Kinect system is seen working parallel with Windows touch screen interface with similar features like the multi-touch gesture, pinch to zoom in and out, click by touch etc. The system is capable of telling when the users have made a full click, except just hovering their fingers above the screen, because of 3D mapping of Kinect enabling a user to flick through pages or scroll without any selection of items.

For this software to work users will be requiring a computer that is running Ubi software, a projector and Kinect for Windows. There would be 4 different variants of Ubi Software from Basic to Enterprise costing from $149 to $1499 in addition to the cost of Kinect from windows costing $250.
