Lionel Messi scored the opening goal in their 2-0 La Liga win. He was substituted in the 29th minute to prevent any injury which might occur during the course of the match.
But, the tests on Sunday morning showed that the Argentine will sit out of Barca’s Champion’s League match against Celtic on Tuesday. He will also sit out of the Primera Division game next Saturday.
“Messi has a minor injury to the biceps femoris (thigh) in his right leg. This was confirmed by the medical tests undertaken by the player on Sunday morning,” a club official said.
“He would be out for approximately two to three weeks. This will force him to miss Barcelona’s next two games,” he added.
This would come as a big blow to Gerardo Matrino. He is already thinking of the trip to Scotland, the same place where Barca lost last season without important players like Javier Mascherano, Puyol and Jordia Alba.
