It was a feast for the eyes of the spectators in Denver as they saw history being remade. The enthusiastic crowd were lucky to witness live the beautiful touchdowns scored by Peyton Manning of the Dener Broncos side against the Super Bowl Champions Baltimore Ravens.Manning played for the Indianapolis Colts for 14 seasons from 1998 to 2011. He is the son of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and an elder brother of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.
Manning tied an NFL record and became the sixth to score as many touchdowns. The last man to score seven was Joe Kapp, on the 28th of September, 1969. In a game against the Colts, Kapp threw for 7 touchdown passes which, as the fans would say, was definetly his best game and form.
“It was an awesome night,” Manning told NBC after the 49-27 Broncos victory. “Our offensive line did a heck of a job against a great pass rush, gave me good time.” Manning threw a pair of touchdown passes each to tight end Julius Thomas, newcomer Wes Welker and Demaryius Thomas. The other went to Andre Caldwell.
Manning’s seventh TD pass covered only a few yards in the air but Demaryius Thomas, a former first-round pick, hauled in the pass in the left flat and turned on the jets, racing past several gassed defenders for a 78-yard play that capped Denver’s big night. “Didn’t surprise me a bit,” said the Ravens’ Brandon Stokley, who played with Manning in Denver and Indianapolis. “He’s capable of this kind of night.”
Manning, a four-time MVP, also tied Brett Favre’s NFL record with his 23rd career game with at least four TD throws, and Drew Brees’ mark with his seventh career five-touchdown performance.
