Lampard’s 100th Cap For England

Prolific England Midfielder, Frank Lampard claimed his 100th cap by helping England to an important draw against Ukraine. Playing 100 games for England and performing very well isn’t a joke for a footballer and Lampard knows that. In fact, he only the eighth person in the history of the England team to reach 100 caps for England. Indeed, it was a proud night for Lampard. He focused all his energy on securing a win for the England team but had to settle for a draw. Roy Hodgson’s team side drew 0-0 against Ukraine in Kiev and continued to lead by a point in Group H.

“It is a special night for me. I was trying to concentrate only on the game and not think of the game as my 100th one. But, looking back, I have come a long way from my first game. I am pleased to be in the situation I am in right now”, he said.

Lampard reinstates that England can take a lot of positives from their game against Ukraine as the qualification for Brazil 2014 rested on their own hands. “Indeed, it was a tough day for us. I thought I was in control of the game for most parts of the first half. We created a few chances, but didn’t quite take them and scored the goals. We were under pressure in the second half of the game, but we kept our nerve. We knew it would difficult to play in Kiev, but we managed a draw. We intended to win here, but a draw is a decent outcome. With two home games in hand, it presents us a good chance of topping the group and booking a place in the World Cup in Brazil.” Lampard said.

Lampard has maintained that he is playing for the love of the game and would continue to do so, and not bother much about age catching up with him.
