John Carmack Believes That Oculus Rift Could Run As Android-Powered Standalone Headset

The Virtual Reality headset Oculus Rift, technically a head-mounted display for gaming is very popular nowadays and could work as a standalone experience powered by Android.

Oculus CTO John Carmack suggested about the Oculus Rift dev kit currently in the works alongside news that it will arrive in developers’ hands in 2014. He also revealed some other facts and said “The way I believe it’s going to play out is you will eventually have a head-mounted display that probably runs Android, as a standalone system, that has a system-on-a-chip that’s basically like what you have in mobile phones.”

At Present it can only be operated through PC. Carmack also told that they are trying higher resolution and position tracking in upcoming developer kit.
