Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paris Saint-Germain forward insists that men’s and women’s football cannot be compared are should be treated differently. The rewards should purely be based on the finance generated by them.
The Swede voiced his views after his country’s FA created a controversy by giving Anders Svensson a new Volvo for breaking a record of 143 caps, previously held by Thomas Ravelli.
However, women’s midfielder, Therese Sjogran did not receive the same accolade despite the fact that she holds a record 187 caps for her country.
“With utmost respect to the ladies out there, they have performed very well and progressed well in football, but you simply cannot compare men’s and women’s football. It isn’t even funny. When I play in Europe, people compare me to Messi and Ronaldo. When I play for my country, they compare me to a female player. It is ridiculous”, the 32 year old expressed his views to Expressen newspaper.
“The Swedish media asked me who the better player was, me or Lotta Schelin ( female Swede striker). They are joking, surely? I have broken so many records, and they compare it to the ladies”, he quipped.
