Luiz Suarez insists that he had decided to stay back in Liverpool ‘a few weeks ago’ and had given no thought on switching to another club this summer.
He had announced at the start of the transfer window that he didn’t want to stay in Liverpool and that Anfield wasn’t his home. However, his future at Anfield is not likely to be a pleasant one with the Liverpool fans ready to pounce on Suarez for any of his actions, on-field or off-field.
Liverpool’s stance has remained constant, throughout the transfer window- the fact that the striker isn’t for sale. They have snubbed many clubs from the Premier League, including rivals, Arsenal. Real Madrid also made a bit for the Uruguayan star, but had failed to sign him.
Suarez claims to be happy being in Anfield and is willing to perform to his potential. He doesn’t want to let down the team and everybody else with his antics.
Suarez accepts that a possible transfer to another club was playing in his mind a few weeks ago, but everything had become settled after I weighed my options wisely. He wants to move on and expects the fans to understand that he wouldn’t be the same person who acted instinctively, but would play for the team and contribute as much as possible. With Champions League as his target, Suarez hopes to carry his side through. Now that the transfer window is closed and no signings can be made in future, Suarez is comfortable in Liverpool and as the main striker for the team; he is willing to shoulder the responsibility.
To a football follower, it feels like Suarez has settled for Liverpool and has no ambitions of continuing and contributing to the club in the future. It wouldn’t be surprising if Suarez leaves Liverpool, when the transfer window opens in January.
