Hiddleston Replaces Cumberbatch In “Crimson Peak”

Tom Hiddleston, the English actor famous for playing the role of the evil “Loki” in Thor and The Avengers has replaced Benedict Cumberbatch in the forthcoming film Crimson Peak. The news came as a deafening and unexpected shock because it was not the least bit anticipated. It so happened that our very Sherlock was leaving to headline the seventh episode of Star Wars. This bit turned out to be a false rumor. But the fact that he was replaced was not all that hyped because the replacement himself is another British Dandy. Obviously, whichever role it is that these men were/are going to play is meant to be very pale and of course, British.

The movie is set to be directed by Guillermo del Toro, of Hellboy and Pacific Rim fame. The director who is of Mexican origin is characterized by a strong connection to fairy tales and horror, with an effort to infuse visual or poetic beauty. He has a lifelong fascination with monsters, which he considers symbols of great power. Del Toro is known for his use of insectile and religious imagery, the themes of Catholicism and celebrating imperfection, underworld and clockwork motifs, dominant lighting. One would wonder why he did not team up with his usual, Ron Perlman or Doug Jones.

The movie is basically about a young author Edith Cushing who discovers that her charming new husband is not who he appears to be. The plot of the movie has been kept completely mum about, for now at least. But the director has promised that it shall be graphical and sexy. Some might say that the phrase is an oxymoron in itself while others might wonder whether he actually meant graphically sexy. What that actually means, one shall find out only in April 2015, which is of course, tentative.
