Goodbye Google Reader – Retiring!

A news that would sadden all of us has been announced by Google. Google Reader is shutting down soon. July 1, 2013 will be our last date with Google Reader.

The simple reason given for the shutting down of Google Reader is that the usage of Google Reader has with time declined. July 1, the date has been chosen just so the current users have time to download their Google Reader data and so the users can find an alternative reader.

On Google’s official have, they had announced:

“We have just announced on the Official Google Blog that we will soon retire Google Reader (the actual date is July 1, 2013). We know Reader has a devoted following who will be very sad to see it go. We’re sad too.”

“There are two simple reasons for this: usage of Google Reader has declined, and as a company we’re pouring all of our energy into fewer products. We think that kind of focus will make for a better user experience.”

To download the reader content, you can use Google Takeout. By using this, you will receive all the subscription data in an XML file.

It’s time users start looking for another reader which can be used as an RSS platform.
