Gianluigi Buffon has been looking to notch a ‘special achievement’ in his career by becoming Italy’s most capped player. He would be joining Fabio Cannavoro if he starts in the Azzurri’s clash against Czech Republic next Tuesday. Buffon is a veteran of the Italian football team. At the age of 35, it is no surprise that Buffon might become the most capped player for Italy in just two more matches. Italy plays one match before they battle it out against Czech Republic. They would be facing Bulgaria on Friday and would look to notch a victory, given their form in international football.
“It would be a special achievement, but not something which is surprising. I have been playing football for the national team very early in my career. I look forward to represent the country for as long as possible. Having played for 16 memorable years, I have a learnt a lot in long my football career.” said Buffon.
“Despite having suffered an injury which could have almost ended my career, I have come out only stronger. I am always determined to push myself every single time. My determination and perseverance keeps me going. According to me, age is just a number. A person’s skill might improve till a certain age and that can even be 40. My skills may improve tremendously over the coming few years. The last 100 matches of my games were much more than just football. Club football and International football are different ball games. International football demands respect for the national flag and the patriotism involved can’t be expressed in words. It is a lot different. I can say that much. Passion, spirit, emotion and responsibility were present in ample amounts as well. Nothing has given me as much happiness as representing my country and keeping my fans happy.” said Buffon.
