Gerrard Vows To Answer His Critics In The Coming Matches

Prolific England mid-fielder and captain, Steven Gerrard felt very confident ahead of the World Cup qualification after the England football team secured a 0-0 away draw to Ukraine. Currently, England tops the group by just a point with two home games remaining against Poland and Montenegro.

Their last outing in Kiev, against Ukraine was met with great criticism among the English fans. Gary Lineker, former England striker heavily criticized the performance of the England football team and calling their play as ‘woeful’. Roy Hodgson’s men need to improve a lot to put up a much better show in their next two home games.

However, Gerrard looks at the positive side of the performance. He believes that qualification of the England team for Brazil 2014 is definitely in their hands. With a number of injured players to return to the squad, England fans would expect that a World Cup spot would be easy to achieve.

“Yes, we lacked the finishing touch and cutting edge in the game against Ukraine, but that is not a big worry because a lot of big players are missing in the England team at the moment. With Rooney and Sturridge to fit into the squad in a while, and being big match players, we would definitely do a lot better in the coming games and special in the later part of the qualifications. ” Gerrard said.

Despite the stalemate in Kiev, Gerrard is confident that he would answer his critics in the coming few matches. “We have a very good record at Wembley. By beating Brazil, we have proved that if our defense improves, I am confident that we can get the job done. Ashley Cole has been our go-to man this time. Kyle Walker and him have ensured that the defense is as strong as ever. Joe Hart is dependent on these defenders as well, to ensure that he doesn’t concede a goal.” feels Gerrard.
