Clint Dempsey, prolific United States striker has returned to the Premier League. He joined Fulham on a two-month loan deal from MLS side, Seattle Sounders.
Aged 30, Dempsey left Craven Cottage to join Spurts for 6 million pounds in 2012 and then moved back to his nation in August that year.
“I am glad to be back. Fulham has always felt like my home in Europe. Going into a World Cup year, I intend to get back to continue my form and keep playing at the highest level,” he told the Fulham website.
Dempsey is expected to bolster Fulham squad and get them out of the relegation zone. They are currently in 19th in the premier league, after having won only one match out of their past 10 in all competitions.
He would not be eligible to play for Rene Meulensteen’s team till the transfer window reopens in January.
“My best years of football have been at Fulham. I want to help the team and bring them back to mid-table. The team needs to stay alive in the League. In Spurs, our target was to push for the Champions League spot,” said Dempsey. He stated that he got the opportunity to play in United States later on and he took it because he felt like ending his career there and raise his kids.
He signed a four-year contract for Seattle, the same team where he began his career in 2004. Fulham would be playing Norwich on Boxing Day, away and Hull on the 28th.
Dempsey’s last competitive match was on the 7th of November and would be getting back to Seattle on the 8th of Match, the start of the new MLS season.
