Microsoft has made a deal with Hon Hai, which also owns Foxconn, Microsoft’s biggest patent licensee now. The company is going to license Microsoft’s patents, the ones associated with Android and Chrome OS.
Apparently, Microsoft will be paid a fixed fee for every Android or Chrome-based device that Foxconn will make. About 40 percent of the world’s phones and consumer electronics devices are manufactured by this company, and it specializes in original designs, and makes devices for Amazon and Acer.
Microsoft has made deals with other original equipment managers that are associated with Foxconn, such as Acer. According to reports the company will collect it’s fees once per device. According to the contract, both the licensees will have to work out who pays the fee.
