EyeEm, a social photo and filters app from Berlin, is finally catching people’s interest, as it is now known as the best alternative to Instagram. EyeEm is already available on the web, iPhone, and several Android phones, including Windows Phone 8, which doesn’t actually have Instagram yet.
After the major blunder made by Instagram regarding it’s new terms, the company has actually been forced to clarify and insist that it’s users content will not be used for advertising. But the damage has been done; Instagram users were outraged. This week, in the US iOS app charts, EyeEm was No. 20 in the free app chart overall, ahead of Instagram, which was at No. 22. Just a week back EyeEm was No.242 in the photo and video charts. Earlier this week they were at No.2, right behind YouTube. This jump shows that Instagram users are looking to find an alternative to the app.
According to EyeEm co-founder Florian Meissner, the interest first sprung up in “some high school in Texas”, and quickly spread across US. The app company currently has signups per day in six figures. EyeEm has also benefited from Instagram’s decision to forego the Twitter integration, and installed this very feature just a few weeks back. Their Twitter following has taken a huge leap from 30,000 to 63,000.
EyeEm’s main objective hasn’t changed, though. It is still “building the best and most beautiful photo community in the world that becomes profitable”, says Meissner.
