Everton remained steadfast that they would receive the entire 27.5 million pounds from Manchester United, after having signed Marouane Fellaini. There were reports that that the Belgian had commanded a 27.5 million pound fee. Everton have denied the reports as soon as it came up.
Fellaini’s move from Goodison Park to Old Trafford cost Manchester United 27.5 million pounds. Although United could have got him at a much lesser price, they opted not to activate Fellaini’s release clause, which expired at the end of July. Moyes almost became desperate towards the final moments of the transfer window and paid an additional 4 million pounds. Had he signed Fellaini five weeks earlier, he would have saved on the four million pounds. Once his transfer was ratified, Fellaini’s loyalty bonuses were waived, resulting in a loss of 4 million pounds for the player. However, it is understood that the wages in Manchester United would easily compensate for that loss.
Fellaini became the fifth highest expensive player in Manchester United’s illustrious history. The Belgian midfielder has expressed his delight at reuniting with David Moyes. “I am excited to sign for Manchester United. It is always a dream for any player to play for a club of the stature of Manchester United. Having known the Moyes for almost five years, I am sure I would fit into the team soon. I respect his style of working. I had a brilliant time at Everton and I’d like to express my gratitude to all the fans and staff in Goodison Park. I believe I can fulfill my potential in Manchester United, and help them win more trophies in future”.
Moyes said, “I am delighted that Fellaini is joining the Manchester United squad. He has great ability and strength and he is likely to make a difference to our squad.”
