Manchester United are the frontrunners to sign Porto defender, Eliaquim Mangala. Many other clubs are vying for the dependable defender. Manchester United are particularly keen on signing the 22 year old as they believe that he would be the ideal replacement for Rio Ferdinand and Vidic. Ferdinand would be 35 in November and Vidic would turn 32 next month. It is likely that one of the players would be in the final season for Manchester United. With Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Johny Evans, United would want another young defender who would sustain in the high work-rate culture in the club.
When the January Window opens, David Moyes and Chief Executive, Woodward would want to bring the center half to Old Trafford.
Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala has represented his country, France three times in his career. He signed for Porto from the Standard Liege two years ago. He had established himself as one of the exciting center-halves last season. He was instrumental in Porto’s successful defense last season.
