Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant expressed his concerns over the absence of Thunders’ star player Russell Westbrook who is set to miss the first 4-6 weeks of the season with an injury. But Durant insists that the team’s confidence is unshaken and they believe that they can win it all this year.
In an interview with SportsCentre, Durant also said that he didn’t want his teammates to be contented with the 2nd place finish and expects his team mates to have the same hunger he has for winning the NBA title.
Westbrook’s absence is somewhat similar to the sudden departure of James Harden last October but the only difference was that they managed to perform well despite Harden’s absence and proved to be genuine title contenders. But with Westbrook not in action, the Thunder offense does look a bit weak.
Playing without Westbrook wont necessarily be a bad thing for Durant afterall. He himself admitted that he didn’t always want to be the “second best”. Well, now is his chance to showcase his talents and leadership qualities and guide Oklahoma City to the NBA title.
One thing is clear, Kevin Durant will not settle for anything less than the prestigious NBA trophy and the MVP. He is determined to lead his team to success with or without Russell Westbrook.
