The cloud storage synchronization firm – Dropbox on Friday made a quick announcement about purchasing Mailbox. As per the deal the 14 members that created the app have joined cloud storage firm. The financial aspects of the deal were not disclosed.
Mailbox on it’s blog claimed that it has taken more than 1.3 million Mailbox reservations and is processing more than 60 million emails every day since the app went live a month ago. Initial interest in the app was immense such that it acquired a massive amount of reservations even before it was launched. Mailbox believes that it’s team of 14 would soon multiply and this integration is likely to make “cool things” happen. Mailbox indicates that it is working extremely hard on expanding to other email services and mobile devices.
Dropbox revealed last month that a gigantic one billion files are uploaded to it’s servers daily. Reports have suggested that the company will pursue an IPO this year. It is believed to be valued at around $4 billion by investors, though that figure could be out of date.
“Like many of you, when we discovered Mailbox we fell in love—it was simple, delightful, and beautifully engineered. Many have promised to help us with our overflowing inboxes, but the Mailbox team actually delivered,” Dropbox wrote on it’s blog on Friday.
Mailbox had posted on it’s blog “After spending time with CEO Gentry Underwood, Scott Cannon, and the team, it became clear that their calling was the same as ours at Dropbox—to solve life’s hidden problems and re-imagine the things we do every day. We all quickly realized that together we could save millions of people a lot of pain.”
