Dropbox is going big. Dropbox, a file hosting service operated by Dropbox Inc. that offers cloud storage, file synchronization and client software, allows users to create a special folder on each of their computers, which Dropbox then synchronizes so that it appears to be the same folder regardless of which computer is used to view it.
During a speech at Mobile World Congress, Dropbox’s CEO, Drew Houston said that 1 billion files are being uploaded to Dropbox’s servers every day.
This is almost double of the number of the number of tweets that were published on Twitter every day last year, according to the social network.
According to Houston, Dropbox is being accessed by a 100 million users from approximately 500 million devices, ranging from iOS, Android, Blackberry and many more devices.
These statistics should come as a welcome news to the company after concerns that it is being outdone by services such as iCloud, Google Drive and Skydrive.
According to a report by Quartz, Dropbox is planning to go public this year, with the company being valued at around $4 billion.
