The immense success of DreamWorks Animation flick, The Croods, did make it sort of obvious that a sequel would be inevitable. With a $44million dollar earning in the opening weekend itself, one could be sure of a sequel but not of whether it would involve the film’s principal caste. In an interview with directors Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco, Coming Soon re assured its audience with a comeback by Nicholas Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds,(in the sequel most tentatively titiled, The Croods 2). The film has been credited for being the ninth most popular film of 2013, with a worldwide estimate profit of $585 million.
To quote the director, “There’s not much to talk about it yet because we’ve got a big lump of clay and we’re forming it as we speak. There will be lots of new creatures. We’ve got creatures that never got into the first movie. We’re going to take a very, very close look at those”, he said.
No word yet, has been given on the return of the supporting cast of Catherine Keener, Clarke Duke and Cloris Leachman, but a return, some say is possible mostly due to the easy pay check. Speaking of future projects, Cage will be seen in Gordon Green’s Joe; while a lot is being expected out of Reynold’s upcoming flick, The Voices. Emma Stone would be returning as Stacy in The Amazing Spiderman 2 and would also be seen in Alejandro Gonzalez’s comedy, Birdman, next year.
