BlackBerry World, the app store for BlackBerry smartphones is now home to over 120,000 apps. The news, which was revealed by BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins, came after when it was revealed that Skype will be launching its cross platform messaging service on BlackBerry Z10 alongside the BlackBerry 10.1 firmware update, which will be made available to all users today. Heins also confirmed that a number of other apps such as Soundhound, Bloomberg Hub, iHeart Radio and Moog will also be made available with the BlackBerry 10.1 update.
Skype has said that its BlackBerry 10 app will be a preview version, though it will come with the usual features such as voice and video calling, IM’s and the ability to make both landline and mobile phone calls.
The company also said that it will continue to refine and improve the app with BlackBerry ahead of a full release.
The preview version of the app was released in April for BlackBerry Q10, the second smartphone to adopt the BlackBerry 10 operating system after BlackBerry Z10.
