For what looked like ages, DayZ existed solely as a mod for ArmA II. Then, finally last month, DayZ saw a standalone release in alpha type via Early Access. It made around $5 million on its first day. Clearly, folks need massively multiplayer zombie survival games.
DayZ continued its sales dominance, holding the highest spot during most of the recent Steam Winter Sale, despite not being discounted throughout the event. During a development blog post, it had been revealed that the title has sold more than 400,000 copies so far, and there have been more than 40,000 players on servers at one time producing plenty of opportunities.
