Google buys Bump, which allows the smartphone users to send the images, contacts or other files to each other by bumping them together.
This App was first introduced by Apple iPhone and other NFC-equipped smartphones having same functionality among them. This decision of buying Bump seems to be, little influencing factor driven by the release of Apple iOS 7. The latest version of iPhone software installed a new technology called AirDrop. It also have similar features including photos or web addresses – using a combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to multiple devices at once without requiring the phones to touch.
For Bump, that could mean that its biggest platform, iOS, would become less useful if people begin using AirDrop instead of its app.
Google has its own NFC project started in October 2011 with a name ‘Beam’. The price is not disclosed yet but estimation shows its cost between $30m and $60m compared to venture capital investment of $20m.
